Mythology

All of the paintings in this category are miniature portraits of performers (and a few willing family members) portraying creatures from world mythologies. The aim of the series is to spotlight the psychological drama of the creature as interpreted by each model.

This is an ongoing project, the concept for which originated for a 2012 solo show in the historic Colchester Reef Lighthouse at Shelburne Museum. The show, titled Deep End (see PROJECTS>Shelburne Museum for installation views), included a series of paintings of mythical beings relating to water. A related series of paintings presents mythical beings relating to air, also seen in this category.

The single-image paintings in this group are presented in a variety of 19th century picture frames.
